Frequently asked questions
- How does Pawcast decide if it's safe to walk my dog?
- We combine real-time weather data (temperature, humidity, UV, air quality, estimated pavement temperature) with your dog's breed profile — 350+ breeds across our dataset have different safe-temperature ranges. A bulldog struggles in heat that a husky welcomes; we factor that in.
- Why does Pawcast need my location?
- To fetch your local weather forecast. We use approximate coordinates only — not precise street addresses or movement history. You can revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings; Pawcast will keep working but will use a default city for the forecast.
- What does Pawcast Pro include?
- Walk journal — every walk you log is saved to your dog's profile with a snapshot of the weather it happened in. Multiple dog profiles for multi-pup households. Weekly insights including a 7-day walk-score chart, current streak, and a week-over-week comparison so you can see your dog getting healthier. $3.99/month or $19.99/year. Cancel anytime.
- What's free vs. Pro?
- Everything safety-related is free: real-time walk score, breed-specific thresholds across 350+ breeds, pavement-temperature estimates, UV + air-quality + heat alerts, scheduled walk reminders, the "haven't walked yet" evening nudge, and the full alert-history log. You can also use the walk timer freely. Pro adds the walk journal (saved walks, weekly chart, streaks, week-over-week comparison) and multi-dog profiles.
- What's the "Don't forget to walk" reminder?
- A nightly nudge (you pick the time, default 6 PM) that fires only when no walk has been logged for that pup that day. If you've already walked, it stays silent. Toggle it per-pup on the Pups tab.
- How does the Alerts → History tab work?
- Whenever a safety threshold is crossed — hot pavement, high UV, poor air quality, etc. — Pawcast logs the event with the weather conditions at the moment it fired. You can review past alerts grouped by day. Logging dedupes intelligently: the same heat warning persisting all afternoon counts as one event, not one per refresh. Toggle individual alert categories on or off in Settings → Alerts; muted categories are skipped both in the log and in notifications.
- How do I cancel my subscription?
- On iOS: open the Settings app → tap your Apple ID at the top → Subscriptions → Pawcast Pro → Cancel Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period.
- How do I delete my account?
- In Pawcast, go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. The deletion is permanent — your profile, dogs, photos, and walk history are removed from our servers within 30 days. If you can't access the app, email us and we'll handle it manually.
- I think Pawcast is giving wrong advice — what should I do?
- Pawcast is informational and not a substitute for veterinary judgment. If something feels wrong, trust your own observations: check the pavement with the back of your hand, watch your dog for panting or slowing down, and bring water. Email us with details about the mis-call so we can improve the breed dataset.
- Can I use Pawcast offline?
- Partially. The most recent weather data is cached, so you'll see the last forecast even without a connection. Live updates and walk-time alerts require internet.
- Does Pawcast track me across other apps?
- No. We don't use advertising identifiers, don't share data with third-party analytics platforms, and don't sell your information. See our Privacy Policy for full detail.
