Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 16, 2026
Pawcast helps dog owners decide when it is safe to walk their pup. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the app you agree to the practices below.
1. Who we are
The app is operated by John Zhong, based in the State of California, United States. You can reach us at support@pawcast.io.
2. Information we collect
Account information
- Email address and password when you create an account. Passwords are hashed by our authentication provider; we never see the raw value.
- Display name if you choose to provide one during onboarding.
Pup profiles
- Dog name, breed, weight, age, and the safety attributes you toggle (short-nosed, thick-coated, senior).
- Photos you upload of your dog. Photos are stored in a private, access-controlled storage bucket; only you can read them.
Location
- Approximate latitude and longitude of your device while the app is open, used to fetch the local forecast and air-quality reading.
- We store your most-recent coordinates so our forecast-checking job can alert you about dangerous conditions even when the app is closed.
- We do NOT collect precise street addresses, place names you visit, or movement history.
Notifications
- An anonymous push-notification token issued by Apple, Google, or Expo for the device(s) you use, so we can send you walk alerts and reminders.
Purchase information
- If you subscribe to Pawcast Pro, we receive a purchase receipt and product identifier from Apple or Google.
- We forward the receipt to the respective store to confirm your subscription status.
- We do NOT see your payment card or billing address; those are handled entirely by Apple or Google.
Device and diagnostic information
- App version, OS platform (iOS / Android), and basic crash diagnostics.
We do NOT collect: contacts, microphone audio, camera footage outside of photos you actively pick, advertising identifiers, browsing history outside the app, or your friends' data.
3. How we use your information
- Authenticate your account — email, password hash.
- Sync your pups across devices — pup profiles, photos.
- Fetch your local forecast — latitude/longitude.
- Send walk-time reminders — push token, reminder schedule.
- Send weather-safety alerts — push token, latitude/longitude.
- Manage your Pro subscription — Apple / Google receipt, product ID.
- Diagnose crashes and improve the app — device, OS, app version, crash logs.
We do NOT sell your personal information to third parties, and we do NOT use it for cross-app advertising.
4. Third-party services we rely on
- Supabase, Inc. — hosts your account, pup profiles, photos, and notification tokens.
- Expo — relays push notifications to Apple and Google.
- Open-Meteo — receives anonymous latitude/longitude when we fetch the forecast. No account information is sent.
- Apple App Store / Google Play — handle subscription billing and validate receipts.
5. How long we keep your data
- Account data, pups, and photos: kept until you delete your account or remove the items individually.
- Location coordinates: only your most recent reading is retained.
- Walk alert history: kept for 30 days for de-duplication, then purged.
- Crash logs: kept for 90 days.
6. Your rights
- Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you by emailing support@pawcast.io.
- Correct — edit your profile and pups in the app at any time.
- Delete — go to Settings → Account → Delete Account, or email us. Account deletion is permanent and removes your data within 30 days.
- Export — request a copy of your data.
- Opt out of push notifications — use your device's notification settings, or toggle them off in Settings → Notifications.
- Revoke location access — change it in your device's Settings; Pawcast will keep working but will not provide local forecasts or weather alerts.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK, or California, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
7. Children
Pawcast is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Security
We use TLS for data in transit, encryption at rest for stored data, and per-user access controls (row-level security) so one user cannot read or modify another user's information. No system is perfectly secure; if we ever detect a breach affecting your data, we will notify you within 72 hours.
9. International transfers
Our servers are hosted in the United States. If you are outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and stored on servers there.
10. Changes to this policy
If we materially change this policy we will notify you inside the app and via email before the changes take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version.
